Base Stations (Graphite and Snow - M5757 and M8440) share the same
Power adapters. The internal cards are different on them, M5757 uses
a Lucent Orinoco Wavelan type Card while M8440 uses the Original
Apple Airport Card.
The Airport "Extreme" Base Station
(Model # A1034)
- Snow White in color like the iBooks G3 & G4
- up to 50 users
- 128-bit encryption
- WiFi 802.11g & backwards compatible with 802.11b
- Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher (some features like WPA require minimum
10.3 or higher)
- Three different configurations of Model A1034 - all called
the same "Airport
Extreme Base Station"
1. # M8930LL/A - 2 ethernet ports, 1 usb port
2. # M8799LL/A - 2 ethernet ports, 1 sub port, 1 56k modem port,
external antenna connector
3. # M9397LL/A - 2 ethernet, 1 sub port, 1 56k modem port,
external antenna port, powered by the ethernet cable
Note: The prices for the 3 different models differ
greatly because of the configurations, especially the PoE (power
over ethernet)
The Airport "Express" Base Station(Model A1084) (Part
#M9470/LL/A)
- looks more like a power adapter for a powerbook
- up to 10 users
- 128-bit encryption
- WiFI 802.11g & backwards compatible with 802.11b
- ethernet port, usb port, mini audio jack for analog or digitial sound
Airport Extreme Base Station (#MA073LL/A)
- Sold under the same name as the previous model A1034
- newer faster thru put 802.11n backwards compatible with a,b and g
- USB port
- 4 ethernet ports
