May 2, 2016 - Hammondsport Mac Users Group ATTENDING : Tom B, Jim P, Jerry L, Al J, John M, Russ C, Larry T and Gene N. TOPIC : OPEN / SHARE
At our meeting today we discussed a variety of questions, comments and experiences, starting with our first memory of using computers and some of the dumb things we thought and did out of ignorance. It was quite humorous.
SOME TOPICS OF DISCUSSION
Connect a large digital monitor to your laptop Jerry shared how helpful it is to attach a large monitor with sharp resolution to your laptop - also how the price has come way down on these units in recent months - he recent purchased this 27" model - you will also need a Mini-Display-Port to HDMI (or VGA) adapter for your Mac and the appropriate cable to connect the monitor to your computer.
Share a very large file using Dropbox Jerry explained how he was able to share an extremely large 7GB video file by using Dropbox - it took 22 hours to upload due to the limits of his internet upload speed (1 Mbps) - Gene mentioned that Empire's new fiber optic cable in local communities such as Corning, Bath and Hammondsport are capable of 100Mbps downloads and 20 Mbps upload speed (read more).
